The Life of Queen Elizabeth I | A Kick of History
Hi everyone! Welcome back to A Kick of History! In today's blog, we will talk about a famous queen who ruled the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Her name is Queen Elizabeth I! Please follow the blog if you like my content and let's get on with it! All of my info is from this site: https://www.britannica.com/biography/Elizaeth-I
Queen Elizabeth was born at the Greenwich Palace, on September 7th, 1533. She was the beloved daughter of King Henry VIII, and his second wife, Anne Boleyn. He had gotten a second wife by disobeying the pope and breaking England from the authority of the Roman Catholic Church. But, his first wife had already given King Henry VIII a daughter named Mary. So, he was hoping for a son to have a boy next in line for the throne. But, Queen Elizabeth's mother bore a girl. This was an extremely bitter disappointment to her father. So, on Queen Elizabeth's third birthday, he got her mother, Anne Boleyn beheaded. King Henry VIII then married again and this time, he got a boy. Elizabeth's brother, Edward. Once her brother Edward was born, Elizabeth was nothing but a bother in her father's eyes. So, her father sent her far away from him. He didn't want to see her.
Soon after, Elizabeth's father died in 1547. The throne was then given to 10-year-old Edward. After this, Elizabeth's life took a severe turn. Her guardian since her father sent her away, Catherine Parr married the lord high admiral, Thomas Seymour. But Thomas wanted power and began scheming for the throne. In January 1549, after Cathrine's death, he was arrested for treason and for planning to marry Elizabeth to have the throne. Several interrogations with Elizabeth and her servants led them to believe he was planning this. But when Queen Elizabeth found out that Seymour was killed, she showed no emotion.
Soon, Elizabeth's older sister Mary rose to the throne. Mary brought back, by force if necessary, the Roman Catholic faith. She was even called "Bloody Mary" because if anyone disobeyed her, they were burned at the stake. Since this happened, Elizabeth seemed to be the main beneficiary for people trying to overthrow the throne! Queen Elizabeth's life, was in grave danger.
